Merry Happy!

Merry Happy greetings Buzz-folk!
Apologies for the on-line absence. Off-line we have been buzzing on and far too excited to spend time at the computer in this gorgeous weather!
After our South Sudan Salvation support in August we raised money for 'Mama Kits' through Childfund Australia in September, donated to the Special Olympics in October, got our Mo on for Movember and now... here we are in December!
This means we have been running, riding and making new friends for one whole year now! Thankyou so much to everyone who has been involved in buzz, supported, nurtured and participated. We continue to meet at 6pm on Tuesdays for a run/walk and on Friday mornings at 6am for a ride. All are welcome and the more the merrier so keep spreading the word, bringing friends along and helping us grow.
As we did last year, this year we'll combine charities over the festive season and funds will again go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation for Dec/Jan. Our usual sessions will take place this week and then next week we'll have Christmas fun.
Tuesday evening after the run we'll have Christmas drinks at the Ship Inn. On Friday after a Christmas ride we'll celebrate with breakfast at Pear Cafe/Bar in Highgate Hill. For anyone who has made a session over the last year or for anyone who has been meaning to come, it would be great to see you then!

the sun is back!

Hi team!
Summer is on its way- the days are lighter, longer + warmer + the tell tale sign: the Brisbane streets are now full of cyclists!
So, make summer plans, sign up for a fun run, an ocean swim, a camping trip... and make yourself fitter and funner along the way by joining the buzz mob for our runs and rides.
On Tuesdays our usual kick off is Goodwill Bridge, Southside at 6pm for a jog and Friday mornings we dust of the treadlies for a river ride departing Goodwill at 6am. Each sesh is $2 with $1 to charity and $1 for the 'social club'. Speaking of which, our first Spring social will be after our run next Tuesday evening 11 September (gotta beat the budget day blues somehow!).

Inspiration special!

There is so much to be inspired by at the moment! If you have been watching the Olympics and been inspired by the agony and the ecstasy of sport, then it's time to lace up and get involved with buzz!
If you think you may one day be able to compete with Anna on the track or want to build some quads of steel a la Forstermann then our Friday ride sessions are for you!
Perhaps all you need to get inspired is to look outside and see that with everyday, dawn is breaking earlier and the sun is setting later here in Brisbane. Thank you London 2012 Closing Ceremony for that reminder!
Whatever reason you have to get inspired, add another one to your list: Buzz is a friendly mob. If your speed is racing around the riverloop then we'd love to see you. If you can manage a jog/walk then we'd love you to come along too! And if you're just starting out on a fitness journey, have injury niggles or just prefer to see the landscape at the pace of a walk (power or otherwise!) then Buzz is also just the place for you! Whatever your speed, Buzz is about getting people raising their heart rate, meeting some friends and raising a few dollars along the way.
Bring your $2 (you won't even feel it!) and see you Tuesdays 6pm at the Goodwill Bridge for a run/jog/walk or Fridays 6am for a ride (or fly like the birds!).

seriously rich?!

Seriously rich?
Hi team!
So you know someone who is Seriously Rich? They obviously haven't been giving enough of their hard earned pennies to the various groups who Buzz supports! There is still time though!
This evening we will be running and walking our way around the river, leaving 6pm from the Goodwill Bridge. After, we'll celebrate our month of collecting for the Ride To Conquer Cancer with warming ales (or similar!) at the Ship Inn for anyone who wants to join us.
Our usual Friday ride (6am Goodwill Bridge) will be our first August ride and the first collecting and supporting South Sudan Salvation. This organisation is trying to raise funds and support families in Awiel, who are suffering from the impact of war in the Sudan. Please consider donating to this very worthy cause, and encourage as many people as you can to come along to Buzz  in August. Stay tuned for more details on SSS as we progress through the month.

Winter update

Hi again Buzz-folk!
As the financial year is well and truly over now we thought an update (and celebration) of recent donations was in order.
Most recently, for the month of June we lent a hand and put our $2 towards the Vinnies 2012 Winter Appeal. We gathered $51.40 over the month, thanks to you guys for turning up each week and chucking a gold coin in the tin!
In May we helped one of our own Buzz team members, Michelle, in her Live Below The Line challenge- a week of living on $2 per day.

Our usual run/walk is on tonight (and every Tuesday) leaving at 6pm from the Goodwill Bridge.
Our ride group takes off at 6am on Friday morning and finishes up with coffee, usually done and dusted by 7.30.

Another week, another opportunity to Buzz!
Now that we've passed the solstice it's only a matter of time before we're running and riding in the sunshine again... in the mean time there are plenty of running and riding events coming up through the Brissie winter. Sign up and then come and join the group to train together... so then we can celebrate together!
Tuesday 6pm for running and walking, Friday 6am for a ride. Both leave the Goodwill Bridge and are $2 a pop, so we can give to charity.

Congratulations - we made it!

Congratulations to the amazing group who made it through the Gold Coast Marathon on the weekend! It was great to have so many buzzers out there and a great excuse to spend the weekend in the sunshine, eating, drinking and celebrating 5's, 10's and half marathons... and to watch and be inspired by the marathon - is anyone keen to ramp up the distance for next year?!
Thanks so much to all those who cheered, supported, fed and watered us over the weekend.
We'll be back with recovery runs this week- tonight 6pm at the Goodwill- time to run into July!

Tonight and Friday are our last training sessions before we tackle the GOLD COAST MARATHON!
We'll be tapering (or something like that!) in our usual 6pm Tues and 6am Friday sessions this week and so look forward to seeing your smiling faces then!
Congrats to all the team for getting this far and good luck to everyone running and walking this weekend. Buzz has 26 people spread over all the events so if you want to get inspired, head to Southport on Saturday morning to see the 5.7 and 10 k runners or Sunday morning to see the halfers!
You can find all the info on the race on the website but here is some of the vital stuff:
Race start times: 5.7km 8am Sat (recc arrival 7am... parking can be tricky!)
10km 6.30am Sat (recc arrival 5.30am)
Half Mara start 6am Sun (recc arrival 5am)
Remember to make time to collect your race kit if you haven't yet- from the Gold Coast Convention Centre (NOT the race start) on either Friday (5/10km) or Sat (half).
Social/Fun stuff!: on both Sat and Sunday we're planning to celebrate race victories with brekkies/brunches/lunches. Stay in touch if you're going to be around for the weekend so we can keep you posted about meeting points for cheer squads/supporters and where we'll party after!

Get to the starting line!

The Gold Coast marathon is not far away now and we have an awesome 26 people signed up with Buzz!
This week we will be kicking our training along with our Tuesday evening run, 6pm at the Goodwill Bridge. The ride takes off 6am Friday from the same place.
Thankyou so much to everyone who comes and supports us every week- particularly in these darker, cooler months, the company and motivation to get out and get going is much appreciated! Feel free to spread the word to anyone you think might want to share the buzz!

A few important  notes for those signed up for Gold Coast events with Team Buzz... please read on if that means you!
This Sunday is Kit collection day (if you signed up for Brisbane collection). It's really important you get along to collect your kit from the Suncorp Piazza and you'll need your e-ticket (emailed to you after signing up) to do so. Here are the details provided from Gold Coast regarding collection:

    For anyone who is keen for a taper run + breakfast on Sunday morning prior to kit collection, a group of us will be meeting at 8.30 at the Goodwill Bridge. We can take on loops of various distances (and speeds!) to suit the different event distances, and meet back for coffee about 9.30 before kit collection starts at 10am. All welcome- so if you haven't been able to make mid-week buzzing, come along this Sunday to have a trot!

Dose Up!

It's cold, it's wet and nobody feels like getting out for a run... But that's too bad- with less than 3 weeks to go before Buzz takes on the Gold Coast marathon we have no choice but to dose up on Vitamin C and GET OUT THERE!
Wear something quick-dry and warm and see you tomorrow, 6pm at the Goodwill for a run/walk or 6am Friday for our river ride.

Get running!

Ok team- time is nearly up! 
Tomorrow at midnight is the last opportunity you have to sign up for any of the Gold Coast Marathon events as part of our super special team-buzz!
As with our normal weekly buzz sessions, there will be friends, fitness and food... and a few days at the coast as well- what more could you want?!

We still need a few more people in order to qualify for team registration (and the team discount!) so please, sign up today and pass the word on to any friends who might want to join us.

Costs (with team discount) will be: Marathon $108.00; Half MArathon $76.50; 10km run $49.50; 5.7km Challenge $36. And yes, you are welcome to run/walk the course if you like!

Don't be afraid of the dark!

A little moonshine never hurt anyone!
Hi team!
With winter darkness and short days well and truly upon us, most of us are leaving work in the dark. You may be wondering how to get out and about despite the lack of daylight- perhaps you are even feeling a little wary of the shadows... But loads of great stuff happens in the darkness! Parties are on, stars come out, nocturnal animals show their peepers... oh, and Buzz is on after-dark as well!
Come and join us for safety in numbers! Tuesdays are our run/walk sessions leaving 6pm at the Goodwill Bridge. Friday mornings at 6am we head off for our ride.
Also, make sure to mark next Tuesday in your diaries. It's our end of month drinks- time to celebrate again and this time  it also coincides with the last day for entry into the Gold Coast Marathon. If you've been dilly-dallying, it's time to put pen to paper and sign up! Select the 'existing team' option (Buzz Brisbane) and use our team code 'Buzz2012' to be part of our team. Join us for drinks at the Ship Inn after our run next week and meet others who are 'doing' Gold Coast too.

Entries are filling up and we need to make sure we have spots for anyone from Buzz who wants to join in - so make sure you sign up asap. Hi all!
Hope you all managed to get out and about to enjoy some sunshine, blue skies and some of the great events that were on over the long weekend... fun runs, triathlons, ocean swims, cycle trips... Whatever you did, we hope it inspired you and got you buzzing!

This week we are on again for 6pm walk/jog at the Goodwill Bridge this Tuesday evening and Friday 6am for a cycle.

Public Art! Spotted mid-run last week!
Hi team!
Another week, another opportunity to pull on your trainers and get buzzing!
A huge thanks to everyone who came along last week to support us and have a drink, some pizza and a chat- was great to catch up with people in a not-so-huffy-puffy-environment!
We also raised an awesome $77 for young people from "all works of life" as part of Jim Stynes' charity, Reach.
It's so great to have now helped out Bowel Cancer Australia, the Indigenous Education Foundation, Qld Mental Illness Followship, Beyond Blue and now Reach... but we are greedy! We want to give more, donate more, help more, meet more people and BUZZ more! So, keep spreading the word, telling your friends and making the effort (even in these cool autumn evenings and chilly mornings!) to get along to our sessions- Buzz is for, by and about you - the community!
The message is simple: $2/session with $1 to charity and $1 to monthly drinks. Run/walk meet Tues 6pm Goodwill Bridge. Ride meet Friday 6am at Goodwill Bridge (we do also pass by Regatta at 6:15 for those of you on the other side of the River!).

at least the darker mornings + evenings mean beautiful sunsets and sunrises!
Hi team!
This week we celebrate the end of another month (well, the end of the month is really next week, let's not get ahead of ourselves, but it is the last Tuesday of the month!) as well as a mid-week holiday for Anzac Day.
If you're looking to celebrate,  make this week the week you join us for running or walking. All levels will be welcomed and encouraged and afterwards we'll celebrate with pizza + a catch up on the Southbank Lawn in their new 'River Edge' precinct! Spread the word and hopefully you can join us for a run, a walk (6pm, Goodwill Bridge) and (or!) a pizza and chat (from 7pm). Our ride will be on as usual too, rolling out Friday morning from the Goodwill Bridge at 6am.
*A reminder too, to make sure you get your entries in for the Gold Coast Marathon (and half, 10km and 5km events!) using our team code. Anyone is welcome to join the Buzz team (and take advantage of discounted entry fee's!) so tell work colleagues, friends, family and start to get fit for winter!

easter re-fresh!

Easter holiday mountain challenges?! Yes please!
Hi Buzz team!
Welcome back! Hope you too have had a wonderful Easter break full of relaxation, action, adventure or whatever makes your heart sing!
If you're needing to get back into the swing of things following a chocloate egg induced coma, get along and join us this week! We're back to our regular Tuesday run/walk slot 6pm at the Goodwill Bridge on Tuesday evening and riding Friday morning at 6am from the same spot.
Tell your friends, start to make it a regular part of your social/active life and leave the office early this Tuesday to join us for buzz!
Make sure too, to sign up for the Gold Coast Marathon with our Buzz team entry. You'll receive discounted entry fee's on any of the event distances but we need to get our numbers up so we can support each other on the weekend. If you're thinking about it, make sure you go to the website and enter under the team entries (you can search our team name Buzz Brisbane and then use our team password buzz2012). Set some health goals for 2012 and sign up! Tell your mates- anyone can join our team!

Morning rides and evening runs are getting darker.. all the more reason to join friends at buzz to keep your fitness momentum going as the days grow shorter!

We will be there at the Goodwill Bridge for our usual 6pm walk and run tomorrow (Tuesday) and on Friday morning for our ride at 6am.
Invite your friends and remember to plan in time to join us for a drink tomorrow evening as well - this is our last week in the month and next week we'll be celebrating April Fools' and a new charity!

Remember too, the Buzz team entry has been approved for the Gold Coast Marathon and is ready and raring for you to go! With our discount you can enter the Marathon for $108 (non-buzz full price $140), Half Marathon for $76.50 (f p $105), the 10km for $49.50 (f p $75) or 5.7km challenge for $36 (f p $60). As if you needed more reason to run with the Buzz team! The website has links to all their training plans so you know how far you need to be running with us each week in order to make it to the finish line on the 30 June/1 July.

Once you have decided on your distance, simply enter via the website following the steps below. Our payment will be made as a team lump summ by 30 May so once you have signed up we will arrange for everyone to bring their fees to one of our sessions.

kick some goals!

No, we are not making a football reference (though the season is coming up mighty quick...). If you set a 2012 goal to get running, finish a fun run or get fit, here is your chance. The Gold Coast Marathon weekend which has events including a 5km, 10km, Half and Full Marathon is on the 30 June/1 July (5, 10km events on Sat and Half and Full Marathon on the Sunday). The event entries open today and Buzz has just submitted its team entry papers! That means when you enter using our special team entry code (which we're still waiting on!) you can be part of our running team! We will keep you posted as soon as we hear what our code is and any extra details but if you're interested in any of those events, please drop us an email (buzz.bne@gmail.com) and we will keep you in the loop. The team is not limited to those who Buzz regularly, so please feel free to pass on to anyone you think might want to do Gold Coast as part of our team!
In other news, we finished up our Feb collection for Qld Mental Illness Fellowship with a donation of $64! Thanks to all those who run, walk and ride with us each week and make these little collections possible. This month we have been collecting for Beyond Blue who particularly support and campaign to beat depression and anxiety. Check them out or come along on Tuesday evenings at 6pm or Fridays at 6am to get your heart rate going (that helps to beat depression too!) and part with $2 for the cause!

it's still early in 2012!

This weeks theme: It may be March, but there's still plenty of time to set yourself (and your mates!) up for an awesome year by planning a regular walk, jog or ride (and some chat!) into your weekly routine!
Each week walkers and joggers of ALL (yes really, ALL!) abilities meet at the Goodwill Bridge at 6pm (just near the Ship Inn on the South Bank side) to make our way around the river. We meet rain, hail or shine, so no need to feel hesitant wondering if someone will be there to meet you- we will be there!
Friday sees us meeting at the same Goodwill Bridge point again, but at the other end of the day for a 6am cycle session. This one is followed by a caffeine pit stop to set us up for the weekend. Each szession is $2 so we can have drinks at the end of each month and donate some $$ to charity too.
So come along and see what the Buzz is about... we don't bite!

got a bike? join us fri mornings for a ride!
The sun is shining and it's another great week to buzz!
Each Tuesday we leave The Goodwill Bridge (sth side!) at 6pm for a run or walk. Yes, all levels are most definitely welcome - we have walkers, we have runners and we have people who started out with buzz by walking and have now worked up to a walk/run combo - hooray! That is surely ticking boxes on some New Years resolutions!!
If you or your friend, mate or colleague fancy joining us for a mid-week endorphin-charge, please come along to run or walk your way around the river!
Alternatively, if 2 wheels is more your thing, on Friday mornings we meet back at the Goodwill Bridge at 6am for a cycle through the river city. Caffeine features heavily in the equation and keeps us buzzing through the last day of the week.
Remember, each session is $2 with $1 to the 'social club' end of month drinks and $1 to a different monthly charity. This month we're well on our way to helping out the Mental Illness Felowship of Queensland. On their webpage the 'Vision' section outlines exactly what they are working towards - a community who value and support people with Mentail Illness and their families. So come along, empty your pockets and meet some new friends as you do!

Thanks so much to everyone for the massive efforts to come along to buzz in the last few weeks, despite heading back to work, rain bouts and high humidity! It's been great to see so many new faces and will be great to see more and more as the year progresses! Today we sent off our donation to the Australian Indigenous Literary Foundation- $134.25!!! Not a bad effort for a few people turning up to have a jog, a ride, a drink and a chat each week!
This week we are moving swiftly into February and collecting money for a new organisation as well. This month we'll be supporting the local Mental Illness Fellowship of Queensland who do fantastic work raising awareness about various Mental Illnesses, as well as providing information and support to sufferers, their families and friends, and funding research into Mental Illness. With service basess in Brisbane, Gladstone, the Gold Coast, Northern Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba they need our help so please come along to support them, and get your buzz on in Feb!
We'll be at the Goodwill Bridge every Tuesday evening at 6pm for a run or walk and every Friday morning at 6am for a ride. Bring a friend or come meet some new friends- buzz is open to all!

we're not afraid of a little rain!

Last Tuesday at a couple of minutes before 6pm, a group of dedicated and fun-loving people met under the awnings of The Ship Inn, sheltering from the pelting rain. Some wore rain coats and hats, others wore normal Brisbane summer-time sports-wear. 50-ish minutes later said runners and walkers arrived back at The Ship Inn, a little wet, a little more dishevelled but all smiling and laughing about our run (and the crazy looks we received) in the rain!
A huge thanks and shout-out to the amazing group who came out to play despite the rain- we still managed to get our buzz on and we will be doing it all again tomorrow!
Tomorrow is also our end of month drinks so if you've been thinking of coming along, tomorrow will be a great chance to not only get your endorphins going but also to have a mingle and a chat as well. Remember your spare change- we'll be doing a final collection for aief  too- an organisation doing wonderful things for the education of our Indigenous kids.
Can't wait to see you all at the Goodwill Bridge this week- 6pm Tuesday for a run or walk and 6am Friday for a bike ride.

end of january rides, walks and runs

we managed a rain-free tuesday session last wk!
Happy New Year of the dragon!!! Can you believe we are already approaching the end of January?! We'll celebrate another month of exercise and socialising with caffeine after our ride this Friday (get re-energised post-Australia Day!) and drinks next week after our run. The end of Jan will mark the end of fundraising for the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation so if you're keen to donate to a fantastic cause come along and join us on one of our last three sessions of the month.
We're also ready for suggestions for our next monthly charity/community organisation so if you've got some great ideas please send them through or mention them during one of our sessions!
Look forward to seeing you Tuesday's for a run or walk- 6pm at the Goodwill Bridge and Friday's at the same place for a ride at 6am.

rain hail or shine!

rain, hail or shine buzz-team, we'll be out in force again this week! thanks so much to all who made it for our first week back last week- it was great to blow out the christmas cobwebs and get things moving again. we are so excited about the energy of a new year and have so much to plan!
we're looking forward to http://www.tre-x.com.au/ for some muddy triathlon adventure on 28/29 jan, the upcoming twilight run on 18 march, cycling events literally popping out of our ears...
let us know what events or goals you have planned for 2012- without a doubt there will be someone in the wider buzz circle who is interested in tackling it too and you may find a new training partner (or 6)!
dig out those ponchos team and give your desk mate, work colleague or bne newbie a nudge, to encourage them along to buzz too.

buzz in 2012!

happy new year buzz-folk! we hope your festive seasons were fun-filled and happy and that you're brimming with enthusiasm for 2012.this week you're probably back to work, and now you can also get back into buzz!
if your goals for the new year included exercising regularly, meeting new people or giving back through charity, now is the perfect time to get involved with buzz- and spread the word! there are plenty of people who have spoken to us about getting involved but have been unable to so far with the pre-christmas rush... now is the time! anyone is welcome to our sessions which run for aproximately an hour, usually with a drink and a chat after. come along to any of our sessions and see what it's like- bring a friend or a stranger you've been meaning to talk to and get active and social in 2012!
details this week (and every week!):
each session is $2 with $1 to the end of month social club + $1 to a monthly charity.
tuesday evening run + walk. meet at southbank side of goodwill bridge ready to depart at 6pm. drinks + catch ups follow- usually at one of the nearby pubs.
friday morning ride. meet at southbank side of goodwill bridge ready tto depart at 6am. (we can do a 2nd stop at regatta at 6.15 so let us know if you're coming and we'll stop there too!) the buzz continues with caffeination + catch ups at a local cafe after.
